 About Us

Nortex’s 9-1-1 Department provides enhanced 9-1-1 services to a nine-county region, which includes the following counties: Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Jack, Montague and Young.
The 9-1-1 program provides and maintains equipment to ensure delivery of 9-1-1 calls to the proper answering point. We also provide dispatcher training. We have items that are distributed to the public during 9-1-1 educational events at schools that will teach people how and when to call 9-1-1. Information is available in both English and Spanish.
We work with the Counties 9-1-1 in the region, local telephone companies, and wireless companies to ensure every 9-1-1 call is received and managed efficiently at the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). We provide planning and technical assistance to PSAPs throughout the Region. Training is offered to all PSAP telecommunicators to maintain State mandated certifications. Funds for this come from the $.50 charge on each telephone bill and are distributed by the Commission on State Emergency Communications (CSEC).

 9-1-1 Technology

9-1-1 Technology Nortex provides and maintains state-of-the-art 9-1-1 equipment and software to the PSAPs in our region. The equipment allows call takers to answer and process 9-1-1 calls in an efficient and effective manner. Each PSAP is equipped with both automatic and stand-alone Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) that enables call takers to communicate with both verbal and hearing-impaired callers. If a 9-1-1 caller does not speak English, the call taker will connect the caller with the Language Line service so an interpreter can relay information and requests for assistance.

 9-1-1 Wireless

Nortex staff oversees the wireless telephone number identification technology implementation in our nine county region. Wireless vendors are required to schedule testing of each tower to ensure that 9-1-1 calls are routed to the correct and closest PSAP. Phase I Wireless (delivery of a wireless caller's individual telephone number and the address of the tower transmitting the call) has been successfully implemented. Phase II (delivery of a more exact location of the calling party along with individual wireless telephone number) implementation is anticipated in the near future.

 9-1-1 Database Maintenance

We work with the local counties on updating and managing the 9-1-1 database. The database provides 9-1-1 call takers the calling party's name, address and telephone number when they call 9-1-1. The information is displayed on a computer screen in front of the call taker along with pertinent information about emergency responders for that particular address. Future plans will include providing a map detailing a more exact location of the caller which could then be passed on to the emergency responders, law enforcement, fire or medical.
